Here’s a question related to the French Revolution:

What if the Bourbons had succeeded in fleeing either to the Austrian Netherlands, or to one of the border fortresses of Metz or Montmedy?

Or, conversely, what if Louis XVI had NOT allowed himself to be persuaded by his wife to flee Paris?

Would civil war have prevented the Revolution from becoming consolidated by foreign military adventures, leading to an eventual restoration of the absolute monarchy, or, conversely, if the sovereign hadn’t fled his capital, would France have adopted a constitutional monarchy, similar to Britain’s?
